What Our Customers Say

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Crisp lines, fast dry — exactly what we needed"
We used the yellow to remark 40 car park bays at our distribution centre. The paint went on smoothly with a roller, dried in under an hour and we had vehicles back on site by lunchtime. Markings are still looking sharp six months on. Wouldn't use anything else. — James Hartley, Facilities Manager, Sheffield

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Perfect for our school playground repaints"
We repainted the netball and basketball court lines over the summer holidays using white and yellow. The low odour was a real bonus — we were working alongside other contractors in the building. Two coats gave a really solid, bright finish. Great product at a fair price. — Sandra Okafor, Site Manager, Birmingham

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Holds up brilliantly in a busy warehouse"
We've tried several line marking paints over the years and this is the best we've found for our warehouse floor. The yellow aisle lines have taken constant forklift traffic for over a year and are still clearly visible. No primer needed on our concrete floor — just degreased and painted straight on. — Tom Brennan, Health & Safety Officer, Bristol

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Used it on our tennis club courts — superb result" Applied white Coo-Var Line Marking Paint to our two tarmac tennis courts using a line-marking machine. The coverage was excellent and the lines came out razor sharp. Dried overnight and were ready for play the next morning. Members have commented on how professional the courts look. — Fiona McAllister, Club Secretary, Edinburgh

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Red hazard zones done in a morning"
Needed to mark out red exclusion zones around machinery in our factory. The paint covered well in one coat on our sealed concrete floor, dried quickly and the colour is vivid and easy to see. Delivery was next day as promised. Will be ordering again for our second site. — Darren Whitfield, Production Supervisor, Leeds

✅ This product is ideal if you need to:

• Mark car park bays, aisles or directional arrows on concrete or tarmac
• Paint sports court lines on concrete, tarmac or timber (tennis, netball, basketball)
• Mark pedestrian walkways or safety zones in warehouses and factories
• Reopen the area quickly — touch dry in 1 hour, hard dry in 4 hours
• Work in an occupied or semi-occupied facility where low odour matters
• Apply without a primer coat on most surfaces to save time and materials

❌ This product is NOT suitable if you need to:

• You need a water-based or zero-VOC product for indoor use in sensitive environments (schools, hospitals during occupation)
• You require a colour not available in this range (Yellow, White, Black and Red only)
• The surface is heavily contaminated with oil or grease and has not been degreased — adhesion will fail without proper preparation
• The surface or air temperature is below 5°C or rain is forecast during the drying period

Coo-Var Line Marking Paint is a quick-drying, solvent-based floor marking paint formulated on durable resins and low-odour solvents. Developed by Coo-Var — a British coatings manufacturer with over 115 years of heritage — it delivers the crisp, high-visibility lines that car parks, warehouses, sports facilities and public spaces demand.

The formulation creates a tough, matt film that bonds directly to concrete, tarmac and timber on most surfaces without a primer coat, saving time and materials on every job. Its low-odour solvent blend keeps fumes to a minimum, so work can continue nearby while the paint cures — a genuine advantage in occupied facilities. Once dry, the film resists traffic, rain and general wear, keeping markings legible for longer and reducing the frequency of repainting.

Available in Yellow, White, Black and Red in a 5L tin, Coo-Var Line Marking Paint covers the most common marking requirements — from high-visibility yellow bay lines and white sports court markings to black directional arrows and red hazard zones. It can be applied by brush, roller or airless spray, giving contractors and facilities managers the flexibility to work at pace.

Coo-Var Line Marking Paint is an excellent choice for achieving crisp, high-visibility floor markings across a wide range of surfaces and settings:

• Car Parks & Multi-Storey Car Parks – Mark bay lines, directional arrows, disabled bays, parent-and-child spaces and pedestrian crossings on concrete and tarmac. Touch dry in 1 hour and hard dry in 4 hours, minimising disruption to users and keeping operations running smoothly.

• Warehouses & Distribution Centres – Define forklift aisles, pedestrian walkways, loading zones and hazard exclusion areas on concrete floors. The durable matt film withstands constant forklift and pallet truck traffic without fading or lifting.

• Sports Courts & Leisure Facilities
– Apply crisp court lines for tennis, netball, basketball and five-a-side on tarmac and concrete. Suitable for both new installations and remarking faded lines on existing courts.

• Schools, Colleges & Playgrounds – Mark playground games, sports pitches and pedestrian zones on tarmac and concrete. Low-odour formula is practical for use during school holiday maintenance programmes when buildings remain partially occupied.

• Factories & Industrial Sites – Designate machinery exclusion zones, emergency exit routes, fire point locations and safe working areas in compliance with workplace safety regulations. Independently slip tested to PTV 63 Dry and 42 Wet (both Low Risk).

• Roads, Paths & Public Spaces – Apply road markings, cycle lane indicators, pedestrian crossing lines and public space wayfinding on tarmac and concrete surfaces managed by local authorities and contractors.

Coverage: 10 m² per litre at 35–40 micron dry film thickness (applied by brush or roller)

Coverage per size

• 5L tin: Covers approximately 50 m² per coat on a smooth, prepared surface

Recommended coats

• 1 coat is standard for remarking over existing lines in good condition
• 2 coats recommended for new surfaces or where maximum visibility and durability are required

Example calculations

• For a standard car park of 20 bays, you will need approximately 1 x 5L tin per coat
• For 2 coats on 20 bays, you will need approximately 2 x 5L tins

• For a full tennis court remarking (approximately 30–40 m² of line area), you will need approximately 1 x 5L tin per coat
• For 2 coats, you will need approximately 2 x 5L tins

• For a warehouse aisle of 50 m² line area, you will need approximately 1 x 5L tin per coat

Practical coverage may be lower depending on surface porosity, roughness and application method. Porous or rough surfaces will absorb more paint than a smooth or previously painted surface. For accurate project planning, we recommend ordering 10–15% extra to account for surface variation.

Surface Preparation

Concrete
• Power-floated, granolithic and smooth concrete surfaces must be roughened first to provide a good key — abrade or blast mechanically, or etch chemically using Coo-Var Acid Etch
• New concrete must be allowed to cure thoroughly — this can take up to 3 months
• Very porous concrete surfaces should be sealed with Coo-Var Acrylic Primer Sealer before applying line marking paint
• Remove all dirt, laitance, oil and grease before painting

Tarmac
• New tarmac needs several months to weather before painting
• Ensure the surface is clean, dry and free from contaminants

Timber
• Ensure the surface is clean, dry and sound
• Other substrates must be prepared and primed with a suitable primer for that substrate

All Surfaces
• Existing painted surfaces should be cleaned, degreased and sanded to ensure an adequate key
• Remove all loose and flaking material and treat bare areas as new substrate
• Do not apply if the surface or air temperature is below 5°C or if rain is forecast during the drying period

Application

1. Mix the paint well before use and periodically during application
2. Apply by brush, roller or airless spray (nozzle size 15–18 mils)
3. Apply the first coat evenly and allow a minimum of 4–6 hours before applying a second coat
4. Apply a second coat where maximum visibility and durability are required
5. For sharp, clean edges use masking tape or a line-marking machine with appropriate guides
6. Clean tools immediately after use with Thinners 18 or low-odour white spirit

Drying Times (at 20°C)

• Touch dry: 1 hour
• Hard dry: 4 hours

Drying times will be longer in cold or humid conditions. Low temperature and high humidity will adversely affect application, drying and performance.

Important Notes

• Suitable for indoor and outdoor use on concrete, tarmac and timber
• Do not apply to surfaces contaminated with oil or grease unless fully degreased first
• Do not apply in wet, damp or freezing conditions
• Very porous surfaces must be sealed before application
• New concrete may require up to 3 months curing time before painting
• New tarmac requires several months weathering before painting

Recommended System Products

Coo-Var Universal Degreaser:
Degrease concrete, tarmac and timber surfaces contaminated with oil or grease before applying line marking paint to ensure proper adhesion and long-term durability.

Coo-Var Acid Etch: Use on power-floated, granolithic or smooth concrete surfaces to provide a mechanical key for the paint prior to application.

Coo-Var Acrylic Primer Sealer: Apply to very porous concrete surfaces before line marking paint to seal the substrate and ensure consistent coverage and adhesion.

Additional Coats of Coo-Var Line Marking Paint: A second coat is recommended on new surfaces or where maximum visibility and durability are required.

Paint Brushes, Rollers & Frames: Use suitable brushes or short-pile rollers for standard application, or airless spray equipment for large-scale line marking projects.

These products are commonly combined for best long-term results.

What surfaces can Coo-Var Line Marking Paint be applied to?
It is suitable for concrete, tarmac and timber. The surface must be clean, dry and free from oil, grease and loose material. Very porous surfaces should be sealed first and new concrete must be fully cured before painting.

Do I need a primer before applying?
Not on most surfaces. However, very porous concrete surfaces should be sealed with Coo-Var Acrylic Primer Sealer first, and smooth or power-floated concrete must be mechanically abraded or acid etched to provide a key. Other substrates may require a suitable primer — contact us via live chat if you are unsure.

What colours are available?
Yellow, White, Black and Red — all available in a 5L tin.

What pack size is available?
Coo-Var Line Marking Paint is available in a 5L tin.

How long before I can reopen the area to traffic?
The paint is touch dry in 1 hour and hard dry in 4 hours at 20°C. Allow a minimum of 4–6 hours before recoating. Drying times will be longer in cold or humid conditions.

How much does a 5L tin cover?
A 5L tin covers approximately 50 m² per coat at 35–40 micron dry film thickness on a smooth, prepared surface. Coverage will be lower on rough or porous surfaces. We recommend ordering 10–15% extra to account for surface variation.

Can I thin the paint?
No. Do not thin this product — apply neat at all times. Tools should be cleaned with Thinners 18 or low-odour white spirit after use.

Can I apply it with a line-marking machine or spray equipment?
Yes. It can be applied by brush, roller or airless spray (nozzle size 15–18 mils), making it suitable for both small touch-up jobs and large-scale remarking projects.

Is it suitable for sports courts?
Yes. It is widely used for tennis, netball and basketball court line marking on tarmac and concrete surfaces.

Is it low odour?
Yes. The formulation uses low-odour solvents, making it more practical for use in occupied or semi-occupied facilities. However, adequate ventilation must always be maintained during application and drying, particularly in confined spaces.

Can it be used outdoors?
Yes. It is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Do not apply if rain is forecast during the drying period or if temperatures are below 5°C.

How do I clean my tools after use?
Clean brushes, rollers and spray equipment immediately after use with Thinners 18 or low-odour white spirit. Do not allow the paint to dry on tools.

Do you offer next-day delivery?
Yes. Order before midday for next-day delivery to mainland UK addresses. Contact us for delivery options to Scottish Highlands, Northern Ireland and other remote areas.

How should I prepare a surface contaminated with oil or grease?
Degrease thoroughly with Coo-Var Universal Degreaser and allow to dry completely before applying the line marking paint. Painting over contaminated surfaces will cause adhesion failure.

What is the slip resistance of this paint?
Coo-Var Line Marking Paint has been independently tested and achieved a PTV of 63 Dry (Low Risk) and 42 Wet (Low Risk). A site assessment is recommended to determine actual slip risk in your specific environment.
