Coo-Var ProSeal High Performance Primer is a water-based 2-pack epoxy primer designed for porous floors and tricky surfaces like power-floated floors and glossy tiles when not contaminated with oil or damp. Unlike standard primers that fail on difficult surfaces, this high-performance 2-pack epoxy formulation creates rock-solid adhesion on clean, dry tricky surfaces, prolonging floor life and ensuring ultimate adhesion for epoxy and acrylic floor paints.

Developed by Coo-Var with over 115 years of British coating expertise, ProSeal is the professional solution for priming clean, dry porous floors and tricky surfaces before applying epoxy floor paints (Profloor, Profloor Plus, Progrip) or water-based floor paints (Acrylic Floor Paint). The 2-pack epoxy chemistry creates a molecular bond with difficult surfaces, preventing peeling and delamination whilst providing a stable foundation for topcoats.

When porous concrete, power-floated floors, and glossy tiles need floor coatings, standard primers fail to provide adequate adhesion on these tricky surfaces, leading to peeling, delamination, and coating failure. Coo-Var ProSeal's high-performance 2-pack epoxy formulation penetrates porous surfaces and bonds to tricky surfaces like power-floated concrete and glossy tiles, creating rock-solid adhesion that prolongs floor life and ensures long-lasting floor systems.

The water-based solvent-free formulation is low odour (< 10 g/L VOC) and safe for occupied spaces, whilst the 2-pack epoxy chemistry provides professional-grade adhesion. The semi-gloss finish dries clear or light grey, providing a stable foundation for epoxy and acrylic topcoats. Coverage of 35–50 m² per 5kg unit makes it cost-effective for large floor areas.

Suitable for clean, dry porous concrete, power-floated concrete, glossy tiles (ceramic), screed, and tricky surfaces requiring high-performance adhesion. Not suitable for oil or damp contaminated surfaces – use Coo-Var Dampshield Primer for damp or oily surfaces. Apply 1 coat of ProSeal to clean, dry surfaces, allow to cure for minimum 16 hours, then apply epoxy or acrylic topcoat within 7 days for optimal inter-coat adhesion.

What is Coo-Var ProSeal High Performance Primer and when should I use it?

Coo-Var ProSeal is a water-based 2-pack epoxy primer designed for clean, dry porous floors and tricky surfaces like power-floated floors and glossy tiles. Use it when you need rock-solid adhesion on clean, dry difficult surfaces before applying epoxy or acrylic floor paints to prolong floor life and ensure ultimate adhesion.

Can I use ProSeal on oil or damp contaminated surfaces?

No, ProSeal is designed for clean, dry surfaces only. It is not suitable for oil or damp contaminated surfaces. For damp or oily surfaces, use Coo-Var Dampshield Primer instead. Clean surfaces with Oil Remover or Universal Degreaser before applying ProSeal to ensure surface is oil-free.

Why do I need ProSeal before applying floor paint?

ProSeal creates rock-solid adhesion on clean, dry tricky surfaces like power-floated concrete and glossy tiles that standard primers cannot bond to effectively. It prolongs floor life and prevents peeling and delamination of topcoats, ensuring your floor system lasts for years.

Can I apply floor paint directly to glossy tiles without ProSeal?

No, glossy tiles are too smooth and non-porous for floor paints to adhere directly. ProSeal creates a molecular bond with clean, dry tile surfaces, providing the adhesion foundation that topcoats require. Without ProSeal, floor paints will peel and delaminate.

Can I apply ProSeal to power-floated concrete?

Yes, ProSeal is specifically designed for clean, dry power-floated concrete which is too smooth and dense for standard primers. The high-performance 2-pack epoxy formulation penetrates and bonds to power-floated concrete, creating stable foundation for topcoats without mechanical abrasion.

What is pot life and why is it important?

Pot life is the working time after mixing Part A and Part B before the primer becomes too thick to apply. ProSeal has 1.5–2 hour pot life at 20°C. Mix only what you can apply within this time. Warmer temperatures reduce pot life, cooler temperatures extend it. Plan your application to work within pot life.

How long do I need to wait before applying topcoat?

Wait minimum 16 hours after applying ProSeal before applying topcoat. Apply topcoat within 7 days for optimal inter-coat adhesion. This recoat window ensures ProSeal is cured enough for topcoat whilst maintaining chemical bond for maximum adhesion.

What floor paints can I use over ProSeal?

ProSeal is compatible with epoxy floor paints (Coo-Var Profloor, Profloor Plus, Progrip) and water-based floor paints (Coo-Var Acrylic Floor Paint). The high-performance adhesion ensures all topcoats adhere correctly for ultimate floor systems.

Can I use ProSeal outdoors?

Yes, ProSeal is suitable for interior and exterior floors. The water-based 2-pack epoxy formulation is weather-resistant. Ensure surface is clean and dry before application and avoid application if rain is expected within 16 hours.

How much coverage can I expect from ProSeal?

ProSeal provides approximately 35–50 m² per 5kg mixed unit at 45 µm DFT. Coverage varies depending on surface porosity. Porous concrete may require more primer than tiles. We recommend ordering 10–15% extra for surface variation and mixing wastage.

Is ProSeal low odour?

Yes, ProSeal is water-based solvent-free with VOC < 10 g/L, making it low odour and safe for occupied commercial and industrial spaces. Unlike solvent-based primers, ProSeal allows work to continue during application and curing.

What's the difference between ProSeal and Dampshield Primer?

ProSeal is for clean, dry surfaces without oil or damp contamination. Dampshield Primer is for damp or oily surfaces where ProSeal cannot be used. Use ProSeal for clean, dry porous floors and tricky surfaces. Use Dampshield for damp or oily surfaces.

What products do I need to complete my floor system?

We recommend using Coo-Var Oil Remover for eliminating oils, Coo-Var Universal Degreaser for cutting through grease, Coo-Var Acid Etch for preparing concrete (optional with ProSeal), ProSeal as primer for clean dry surfaces, then your choice of topcoat (epoxy or acrylic floor paints), and disposable Application Tools. This complete system ensures maximum adhesion and prolongs floor life.

Complete Your High-Performance Floor System:

• Coo-Var Oil Remover – Eliminates ingrained oils and grease that prevent coatings from bonding, ensuring your epoxy adheres correctly from the very first coat

• Coo-Var Universal Degreaser – Rapidly cuts through oil, grease, and traffic film, leaving a spotless surface that helps your epoxy coating achieve maximum durability

• Coo-Var Acid Etch – Chemically prepares concrete and power-floated floors by opening the surface and creating a rough, porous key that epoxy can properly grip

Application Tools – High-quality brushes, rollers, and extension poles for smooth, efficient application

• Epoxy Floor Paints
– Coo-Var Profloor, Profloor Plus, Progrip for ultimate floor protection

• Water-Based Floor Paints – Coo-Var Acrylic Floor Paint for light traffic areas
