Coo-Var Suregrip Anti-Slip Floor Paint is a pre-aggregated safety coating designed to prevent slips and trips on concrete, wood, metal, and GRP floors where safety is critical. Unlike standard floor paints that become slippery when wet, this solvent-based formulation contains slip-resistant aggregate that provides textured surface for foot traffic, light trucks, and very occasional heavy use.

Developed by Coo-Var with over 115 years of British coating expertise, Suregrip is the professional solution for warehouse floors, factory floors, ramps, walkways, loading bays, and commercial areas requiring slip resistance. The pre-aggregated formulation (60% solids) provides durable anti-slip protection whilst the solvent-based chemistry ensures superior adhesion on concrete, wood, metal, and GRP.

When warehouse floors, ramps, and walkways become slippery from water, oil, or contamination, slips and trips create safety hazards, injuries, and costly downtime. Coo-Var Suregrip's textured aggregate surface provides slip resistance in wet and dry conditions whilst the high-solids formulation ensures long-lasting durability under foot traffic and light vehicle use.

The solvent-based formulation provides superior adhesion compared to water-based alternatives. The pre-aggregated formula eliminates the need for separate aggregate application. Coverage of 6–10 m² per litre makes it cost-effective for large floor areas. Available in 8 standard colours plus 2000+ custom RAL, BS, and NCS tints for safety zone marking.

Suitable for interior and exterior concrete, wood (primed), metal (primed), and GRP floors in commercial, industrial, and residential environments. Prime porous concrete with Coo-Var Floor Paint (thinned 10%). Prime wood with SPO General Purpose Stain Block Primer. Prime bare metal with Teamac Zinc Phosphate Primer. Clean floors with Oil Remover and prepare with Acid Etch for optimal adhesion.

• 1 litre: Covers approx. 6–10 m²
• 2.5 litres: Covers approx. 15–25 m²
• 5 litres: Covers approx. 30–50 m²

Recommended Application: 2 coats for optimal slip resistance and durability

Example Calculations:

Small Area (15 m² floor area):
• Total area: 15 m² × 2 coats = 30 m² coverage needed
• Paint required: Approx. 4 litres total
• Recommended: One 5L tin (£85.00)

Medium Area (30 m² floor area):
• Total area: 30 m² × 2 coats = 60 m² coverage needed
• Paint required: Approx. 8 litres total

What is Coo-Var Suregrip Anti-Slip Floor Paint and when should I use it?

Coo-Var Suregrip is a pre-aggregated anti-slip floor paint for concrete, wood, metal, and GRP floors. Use it when you need to prevent slips and trips in areas with foot traffic, light trucks, and very occasional heavy use where safety is critical.

How does Suregrip prevent slips and trips?

Suregrip contains slip-resistant aggregate pre-mixed into the paint. This creates a textured surface that provides grip in wet and dry conditions. The aggregate prevents slips and trips by increasing friction between footwear/tyres and the floor surface.

Is Suregrip suitable for heavy vehicle traffic?

Suregrip is designed for foot traffic, light trucks, and very occasional heavy use. It is not suitable for constant heavy vehicle traffic (forklifts, heavy trucks). For heavy vehicle traffic, use 2-pack epoxy floor paints like Coo-Var Profloor Plus.

Can I use Suregrip outdoors?

Yes, Suregrip is suitable for interior and exterior floors. The solvent-based formulation is weather-resistant and can withstand UK outdoor conditions. Ensure surface is dry before application and prime appropriately for optimal adhesion.

How many coats of Suregrip do I need?

For optimal slip resistance and durability, apply 2 coats. Allow minimum 16 hours or overnight between coats. The two-coat system provides maximum slip resistance and long-lasting protection.

How long does Suregrip take to dry?

Touch dry in 6 hours, hard dry in 24 hours at 20°C. Allow minimum 16 hours or overnight before recoating. Full hardness for heavy traffic in 5–7 days. Drying times may be extended in cooler temperatures or high humidity.

Do I need to prime surfaces before applying Suregrip?

Yes, priming is recommended for optimal adhesion. Prime porous concrete with Coo-Var Floor Paint thinned 10%. Prime wood with SPO General Purpose Stain Block Primer. Prime bare metal with Teamac Zinc Phosphate Primer. This ensures maximum adhesion and durability.

What surfaces can I apply Suregrip to?

Suregrip is suitable for concrete (primed), wood (primed), metal (primed), and GRP floors. Clean surfaces with Oil Remover and prepare with Acid Etch for optimal adhesion. Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, and properly primed.

What colours are available for Suregrip?

Suregrip is available in 8 standard colours: Grey, Light Grey, White, Black, Tile Red, Yellow, Forest Green, and Blue. 2000+ custom RAL, BS, and NCS tints are available for safety zone marking and colour coding.

How much coverage can I expect from Suregrip?

Suregrip provides approximately 6–10 m² per litre per coat at 60–100 µm DFT. A 1L tin covers 6–10 m², a 2.5L tin covers 15–25 m², and a 5L tin covers 30–50 m². Coverage may vary depending on surface porosity. We recommend ordering 10–15% extra for surface variation.

Is Suregrip water-based or solvent-based?

Suregrip is solvent-based. This provides superior adhesion and durability compared to water-based alternatives. Clean tools with SPO Paint Thinners, not water. Ensure good ventilation during application and drying.

What products do I need to complete my anti-slip floor system?

We recommend using Coo-Var Oil Remover for cleaning floors, Coo-Var Acid Etch for chemically abrading surfaces, Teamac Zinc Phosphate Primer for priming metal, Coo-Var Floor Paint (thinned 10%) for priming concrete, SPO General Purpose Stain Block Primer for priming wood, SPO Paint Thinners for thinning primers and cleaning tools, Anti-Slip Textured Roller for even texture distribution, and Brushes, Roller Arms and Trays for application. This complete system ensures maximum slip resistance and durability.
