✅ This product is ideal if you need to:

  • Acheive optimal adhesion of floor paints for the longest lifespan
  • Prime concrete floors before applying two-pack epoxy floor paints or water-based floor paints
  • Seal and stabilise porous surfaces to create a consistent, paint-ready base
  • Achieve strong adhesion on hard-to-paint floors such as tiles, power-floated concrete, and asphalt.

❌ This product is NOT suitable if you need to:

  • Paint newly laid concrete that has not fully cured
  • Apply to damp or moisture affected floors

About The Product

SPO Two Pack Floor Primer & Sealer boosts paint adhesion by bonding tightly to even glossy tiles or power floated concrete, giving your topcoat a rock solid, peel resistant base. By stopping moisture and strengthening weak substrates, it saves you costly repairs, keeps production rolling and boosts customer satisfaction. Backed by over 100 years of paint innovation, it’s arguably the best adhesion boosting floor primer money can buy.
Water based, low odour chemistry means you can prime during working hours, competitors’ solvent primers simply can’t.

Key Benefits

  • Maximise Floor Lifespan – deep sealing epoxy layer adds another shield for your concrete from wear and damp, stretching every maintenance pound further.
  • Unbeatable Primer Grip – bonds tenaciously to tiles, terrazzo and smooth screed, so your finish stays put and your reputation stays intact.
  • Moisture-Blocking Barrier – resists rising damp and vapour, preventing blistering and costly downtime later.
  • Cut Cleaning & Recoats – smoother, tougher surface keeps dirt on the mop, not the floor, reducing labour and repaint cycles.
  • Flawless Finish Boost – levels porosity and stops out-gassing pinholes, delivering a glass-smooth top-coat your clients will rave about.

Apply it quickly, feel the benefits fast, mix, roll and walk away; light foot traffic in 16 hours and ready for paint the next morning. Add to basket today, prime tomorrow and enjoy worry free floors with next day UK delivery.

Ideal Applications
Coverage & How Much Do I Need

Coverage: Approximately 35–50m² per 5kg mixed unit per coat

Coverage per size

  • A 5kg mixed unit will cover approximately 35–50m² per coat
  • (Coverage is based on a fully mixed unit, including dilution with up to 500ml of clean water as specified in the TDS.)

Recommended coats

  • 1
  • Applied as a single coat to prime and seal difficult surfaces prior to applying floor paint.

Example calculation

  • For a standard-sized floor area (approximately 10m²) you will need roughly 1–1.5kg of mixed primer
  • One 5kg unit will comfortably cover a standard floor area with allowance for wastage

Practical coverage may be lower depending on surface porosity, roughness, and application method. Highly porous or rough concrete may reduce coverage

How To Apply

Surface Preparation

  • Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, sound, and free from grease, oil, and contaminants using Coo-Var Oil Remover and Coo-Var Degreaser

Concrete surfaces:

  • Smooth, power-floated, or granolithic concrete must be roughened to provide a good key
  • Prepare by mechanical abrasion, blasting, or chemical etching using Coo-Var Acid Etch
  • New concrete must be fully cured (up to 3 months) before application

Other surfaces:

  • Prepare and prime as appropriate for the substrate

Previously painted surfaces:

  • Clean, degrease, and sand to provide a good key
  • Remove loose or flaking material and treat bare areas as new substrate
  • Ensure surface and air temperature is above 10°C
  • Provide adequate ventilation during application and curing

Mixing

  • This is a two-pack epoxy system
  • Add the contents of the Base container into the Hardener container
  • Mix thoroughly using a slow-speed electric mixer
  • After mixing, add up to 500 ml of clean water per 5 kg unit and mix again
  • Once mixed, the product has a pot life of approximately 1.5–2 hours at 20°C

Application

  • Apply using a brush or short-pile roller
  • Apply 1 full coat evenly
  • Allow a minimum of 16 hours before applying the subsequent floor coating
  • Maximum overcoating window: 7 days

Drying & Curing

  • Initial cure: approximately 2–3 hours at 20°C
  • Hard dry: approximately 16 hours at 20°C
  • Full cure achieved after 5–7 days

FAQ's

1. What is SPO Two-Pack Floor Primer/Sealer used for?

This water-based epoxy primer is formulated to enhance adhesion on challenging floors—like glazed tiles or power-floated surfaces—while providing a robust foundation for the final topcoat in high-traffic areas.

2. Can I use this primer on all types of flooring?

Yes, it’s suitable for a variety of floors, including concrete, power-floated concrete, and glazed tiles. Ensure the surface is clean and properly prepared before application for optimal adhesion.

3. Does it need a topcoat?

Yes. SPO Two-Pack Floor Primer/Sealer is designed as a base for compatible floor paints or coatings. Once fully dry, you can apply any appropriate topcoat to achieve the desired finish and colour.

4. How long does it take to dry before I can overcoat?

Typically, the primer is ready for overcoating in around 16 hours. Drying times can vary based on temperature, humidity, and the condition of the substrate, so adjust accordingly.

5. Is this primer low-odour and water-based?

Yes. The formula is water-based and emits fewer fumes than solvent-based alternatives, making it more user-friendly—especially for indoor industrial or commercial settings.

6. How durable is the final surface?

When paired with a quality topcoat, this primer significantly boosts the floor’s resistance to heavy foot traffic, forklifts, and vehicle use. It helps minimise peeling, chipping, and abrasion in busy workplaces.

7. What coverage can I expect?

Coverage is approximately 7–10 m² per litre, depending on the porosity and condition of the substrate. Proper surface prep can improve coverage and overall performance.
