What Our Customers Say

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Excellent coverage and dries incredibly fast" Used this on a trailer chassis that had been cleaned back to bare metal. One coat went on smoothly with a brush, touch dry in under 30 minutes and looking great. The semi-gloss black finish is really smart. Will be using on all our trailer refurbs going forward. — Gary Whitfield, Vehicle Fabricator, Yorkshire

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Best chassis paint we have used in the workshop" We have tried several chassis paints over the years and Teamac is the best for coverage and durability. Applied by airless spray to a full vehicle chassis — the finish is even, tough and has held up well through a full winter of road salt and grime. Delivery was next day as promised. — Steve Brennan, Workshop Manager, Bristol

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Used as primer and finish in one — saved us hours" We used Teamac Chassis Paint as a combined primer and finish on a batch of steel fabrications. One coat, touch dry in 30 minutes, and the finish is excellent. Saved us a full day compared to our previous two-product system. Will not be going back. — Mark Osei, Metal Fabricator, Birmingham

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Keeps our agricultural machinery looking sharp" We use this every season on our farm machinery and equipment. It goes on easily with a brush, dries fast and the anti-corrosive protection is excellent — no rust breakthrough even after a full season in the field. Great product at a fair price. — James Hartley, Farm Manager, Lincolnshire

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Structural steelwork looking great two years on" Applied Teamac Chassis Paint to structural steelwork on an industrial unit two years ago. Still looking sharp with no rust, no peeling and no touch-ups needed. The semi-gloss black finish is clean and professional. Would recommend to any fabricator or maintenance team. — Claire Forsythe, Facilities Manager, Edinburgh

✅ This product is ideal if you need to:

• Apply a fast-drying anti-corrosive finish to bare steel chassis or structural steelwork
• Use a single product as both primer and finish to save time and materials
• Protect vehicle chassis, underbodies or metal fabrications from rust, moisture and salt
• Recoat quickly — wet-on-wet recoat in just 30 minutes
• Apply by airless spray for large areas or brush for small areas and touch-ups
• Achieve a durable semi-gloss black finish on metal components

❌ This product is NOT suitable if you need to:

• The surface has not been properly cleaned and degreased — oil, grease and contamination will cause adhesion failure
• The surface has heavy rust that has not been mechanically or chemically treated — blast cleaning to SA 2.5 is recommended for best results
• You require a colour other than black — Teamac Chassis Paint is available in black only
• You need a water-based or low-VOC product — this is a solvent-based product with a VOC content of 506 g/litre
• The application temperature is below the dew point — condensation on the surface will cause adhesion failure

Teamac Chassis Paint is a fast-drying, solvent-based anti-corrosive coating formulated to protect chassis, structural steel and metal fabrications from rust, moisture, salt and corrosion. Developed by Teamac — part of the Coo-Var group with over 115 years of British coatings heritage — it delivers a tough, durable semi-gloss black finish that can be used as both a primer and a topcoat in a single application.

The anti-corrosive formulation contains rust-inhibiting pigments that block moisture and salt penetration, protecting bare steel from the inside out. Touch dry in just 30 minutes at 20°C, it allows fast turnaround on workshop jobs and vehicle maintenance — a second coat can be applied wet-on-wet after just 30 minutes, or after 12 hours once the first coat has fully dried. Full hardness is achieved in 5–7 days.

Suitable for chassis, structural steelwork, metal fabrications, agricultural machinery, plant equipment and industrial metal components, Teamac Chassis Paint is the practical choice for workshops, fabricators and vehicle maintenance teams who need a reliable, cost-effective anti-corrosive finish. It can be applied by airless spray for large areas or by brush for small areas and touch-ups.

Coverage: 7–10 m² per litre dependent on application method and dry film thickness

Coverage by application method

• Airless spray at 40 micron DFT: approximately 10 m² per litre
• Airless spray at 60 micron DFT: approximately 7 m² per litre
• Brush application (small areas): approximately 7–10 m² per litre

Coverage per size

• 5L tin by airless spray (40 micron): approximately 50 m²
• 5L tin by airless spray (60 micron): approximately 35 m²
• 5L tin by brush: approximately 35–50 m²

Recommended coats

• 1 coat is standard when used as a combined primer and finish
• 2 coats recommended for maximum corrosion protection on bare steel or in harsh environments
• Recoat wet-on-wet after 30 minutes, or after a minimum of 12 hours once dry

Example calculations

• For a standard vehicle chassis (approximately 10–15 m² surface area), you will need approximately 1–2 x 5L tins for 2 coats
• For structural steelwork of 50 m², you will need approximately 1 x 5L tin per coat at 40 micron DFT

Practical coverage may be lower depending on surface profile, application method and material losses during spraying. For accurate project planning, we recommend ordering 10–15% extra.

Thin with Thinners 16 at a maximum of 10% for spray application.

Surface Preparation

• All surfaces must be clean, dry and free from grease, oil and contaminants before painting
• Remove any oil or grease with Coo-Var Universal Degreaser before mechanical cleaning or de-rusting
• Bare steel must be free from dust, rust and mill scale, use Teamac Rust converter on stubborn and hard to remove rust.
• Blast cleaning to SA 2.5 is recommended for best results — if blast cleaning is impractical, use mechanical cleaning (wire brushing, grinding or needle gunning); hand cleaning alone is not sufficient
• Where blast cleaning is carried out after assembly, pay special attention to edges, corners, nuts, bolts and welds
• Welds should be ground smooth and all weld spatter and slag removed before painting
• Ensure the surface temperature is above the dew point before applying — condensation on the surface will cause adhesion failure

Application

1. Stir the paint well before use and periodically during application
2. Thin with Thinners 16 at a maximum of 10% if required for spray application
3. Apply by airless spray (nozzle pressure 2000–2300 psi) for large areas, or by brush for small areas and touch-ups
4. Apply evenly, ensuring full coverage of edges, corners, welds and complex geometry
5. Allow to dry before handling — touch dry in 30 minutes at 20°C
6. Recoat wet-on-wet after 30 minutes, or after a minimum of 12 hours once the first coat has dried
7. Clean equipment immediately after use with Thinners 16

Drying Times (at 20°C)

• Touch dry: 30 minutes
• Hard dry: 4 hours
• Full hardness: 5–7 days
• Recoat interval: 30 minutes (wet-on-wet) or 12 hours minimum

Drying times will be longer in cold or humid conditions. Low temperature and high humidity will adversely affect application, drying and performance.

Important Notes

• Suitable for use as both a primer and a finish in a single coat
• Blast cleaning to SA 2.5 is recommended for bare steel — mechanical cleaning is the minimum acceptable standard
• Do not apply below the dew point — condensation will cause adhesion failure
• Full hardness is achieved in 5–7 days — avoid mechanical stress during this period
• Can be overcoated with Teamac Chassis Paint or any suitable topcoat after a minimum of 12 hours
