What Our Customers Say

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Essential first step — fluorescent colours are dramatically brighter" We applied Glocote Foundation before Glocote Fluorescent Paint on warehouse floor safety markings. The difference in brightness compared to applying the fluorescent paint without a white base is remarkable. The Foundation covered in one coat on the concrete floor and the fluorescent topcoat went on perfectly. — Barry Nolan, Warehouse Safety Officer, Doncaster

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Used on timber safety barriers — excellent adhesion and coverage" We applied Foundation followed by Glocote Fluorescent Paint to timber safety barriers on a construction site. The Foundation adhered very well to the sanded timber and the fluorescent yellow topcoat is extremely bright and visible. Coverage was excellent — one 2.5L tin covered all the barriers in one coat. — Philippa Crane, Site Manager, Wolverhampton

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Applied over Zinc Phosphate Primer on steel — perfect system" We used the full system — Teamac Zinc Phosphate Primer, Glocote Foundation and Glocote Fluorescent Paint — on steel safety barriers. The Foundation provided an excellent white base and the fluorescent orange topcoat is very bright. The system has held up well through six months of outdoor exposure. — Declan Murray, Painting Contractor, Belfast

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Four sizes available — great for projects of all scales" We use Glocote Foundation regularly on safety marking contracts of varying sizes. Having four sizes available means we can order exactly what we need without waste. The 5L tin is excellent value for large projects and the 500ml is perfect for small touch-up work. — Yvonne Blackwell, Facilities Contractor, Swansea

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Overnight recoat — plan ahead and the system works perfectly" The 12-hour recoat interval means you need to plan ahead, but the result is worth it. We apply the Foundation in the morning, leave overnight and apply the fluorescent topcoat the following morning. The brightness of the finished markings is excellent and the system is very durable. — Rory Stephenson, Line Marking Contractor, Aberdeen

✅ This product is ideal if you need to:

• Apply Coo-Var Glocote Fluorescent Paint to wood, masonry or metal and achieve maximum brightness and visibility
• Provide an essential white base coat that allows Glocote Fluorescent Paint to function correctly
• Seal a porous surface before applying Glocote Fluorescent Paint — additional coats may be required on highly porous surfaces
• Apply a high-density white base coat to maximise the brightness of fluorescent safety markings, hazard markings and high-visibility signage

❌ This product is NOT suitable if you need to:

• You are applying to metal without Teamac Zinc Phosphate Primer first — metal surfaces require the primer before the Foundation
• You are applying Glocote Fluorescent Paint without the Foundation — the Foundation is essential for the fluorescent paint to achieve its full brightness

Coo-Var Glocote Fluorescent Foundation is a specialist high-density white base coat formulated for use as the first step in the Coo-Var Glocote Fluorescent Paint system. Developed by Coo-Var — a British coatings manufacturer with over 115 years of heritage — it provides the essential white base that Coo-Var Glocote Fluorescent Paint requires to function correctly and achieve maximum brightness and visibility.

The high-density white formula maximises the reflectivity of the surface, allowing the fluorescent pigments in Glocote Fluorescent Paint to produce the brightest possible colour. Without the Foundation, the fluorescent topcoat will not achieve its full high-visibility performance. On porous surfaces, additional coats of Foundation may be required to achieve a fully opaque white base.

The Foundation is applied direct to wood and masonry. On metal surfaces, Teamac Zinc Phosphate Primer must be applied before the Foundation. The solvent-based formula cleans up with Thinners 14 and requires a recoat interval of 12 hours or overnight before applying Glocote Fluorescent Paint.

The complete Coo-Var Glocote Fluorescent Paint system: Teamac Zinc Phosphate Primer (metal only) → Coo-Var Glocote Fluorescent Foundation → Coo-Var Glocote Fluorescent Paint → Coo-Var Glocote Fluorescent Clear Protective Coat.

Key Benefits

• Essential for full fluorescent performance — provides the white base that Glocote Fluorescent Paint requires to achieve maximum brightness
• High-density white formula — maximises reflectivity for the brightest possible fluorescent colour
• Wide surface compatibility — apply direct to wood and masonry; use Teamac Zinc Phosphate Primer on metal
• Four sizes available — 500ml, 1L, 2.5L and 5L to suit projects of all sizes
• 115+ years of British expertise — trusted by safety professionals, contractors and facilities managers across the UK

Coo-Var Glocote Fluorescent Foundation is the essential first step for any application of Coo-Var Glocote Fluorescent Paint:

• Warehouse & Factory Safety Markings — Apply as the first step before Glocote Fluorescent Paint on floor markings, aisle markings, hazard zones and machinery edges. The high-density white base maximises the brightness of the fluorescent topcoat, ensuring markings are clearly visible in all lighting conditions.

• Construction Site Safety — Apply to timber and metal safety barriers, hoarding and site signage before Glocote Fluorescent Paint. The Foundation provides the white base that makes fluorescent safety colours as bright and visible as possible on site.

• Road & Traffic Management — Apply to road furniture, barriers, bollards and traffic management equipment before Glocote Fluorescent Paint. Use Teamac Zinc Phosphate Primer on metal surfaces before the Foundation.

• High Visibility Signage — Apply to signage boards, panels and display surfaces before Glocote Fluorescent Paint for maximum colour brightness and visibility. The Foundation ensures the fluorescent topcoat achieves its full high-visibility performance.

• Sports & Leisure Line Marking — Apply to sports court surfaces, pitch markings and leisure facility floors before Glocote Fluorescent Paint for bright, high-visibility line markings.

• Wood & Masonry Surfaces — Apply direct to sanded and prepared wood and masonry surfaces before Glocote Fluorescent Paint. On porous masonry, additional coats of Foundation may be required to achieve a fully opaque white base.

Coverage: 13 m² per litre at 35 micron dry film thickness

Coverage per size

• 500ml: Covers approximately 6.5 m² per coat
• 1L: Covers approximately 13 m² per coat
• 2.5L: Covers approximately 32.5 m² per coat
• 5L: Covers approximately 65 m² per coat

Note: On porous surfaces, additional coats of Foundation may be required to achieve a fully opaque white base before applying Glocote Fluorescent Paint. Allow 12 hours or overnight between coats.

Recoat interval

• Between coats of Foundation: 12 hours or overnight
• Before applying Glocote Fluorescent Paint: 12 hours or overnight

Example calculations

• For a warehouse floor marking of 20 m² (1 coat): a 2.5L tin will cover with some remaining
• For a safety signage area of 5 m² (2 coats on porous masonry): a 1L tin will cover both coats
• For a large high-visibility project of 60 m² (1 coat): a 5L tin will cover with some remaining

For accurate project planning, we recommend ordering 10–15% extra to account for surface variation and porosity.
