✅ This product is ideal if you need to:

• Protect brickwork, masonry, concrete or sandstone surfaces against graffiti and flyposting
• Apply a clear gloss coating that retains the original appearance and aesthetics of the surface
• Remove graffiti quickly and easily with water or mild cleansing agents without specialist chemicals
• Protect surfaces in high-graffiti or high-flyposting areas such as subways, schools and public buildings
• Apply a professional-grade anti-graffiti system trusted by local authorities and contractors

❌ This product is NOT suitable if you need to:

• The adhesion test has not been carried out — an adhesion test must be performed on all surfaces before full application; refer to the GP101 Guidance Note
• The surface is porous or natural stone such as sandstone and Coo-Var Sealer Coat for GP101 has not been applied first — the sealer coat is required on porous surfaces before applying GP101
• Existing graffiti has not been fully removed — remove all graffiti with dedicated graffiti removal agents and ensure no residue remains before applying

Coo-Var GP101 is a specialist clear gloss anti-graffiti and flyposting protection coating formulated to protect a wide range of interior and exterior surfaces against graffiti and poster vandalism. Developed by Coo-Var — a British coatings manufacturer with over 115 years of heritage — it can be used on rough or smooth surfaces including brickwork, masonry, concrete, sandstone and most other prepared substrates, retaining the appearance and aesthetics of the original surface.

Once applied, GP101 prevents graffiti and spray paint from permanently bonding to the surface. Graffiti can be removed quickly and easily using water or mild cleansing agents — do not use anything stronger. Fly posters simply peel off without leaving residue. The clear gloss finish means the original surface appearance is fully preserved.

On porous and natural surfaces such as sandstone, Coo-Var Sealer Coat for GP101 must be applied before GP101. GP101 can be applied direct to non-porous brickwork and masonry. An adhesion test must be carried out on all surfaces before full application — full instructions are provided in the GP101 Guidance Note available from coo-var.co.uk.

Coo-Var GP101 is an excellent choice for anti-graffiti and flyposting protection across a wide range of interior and exterior applications:

• Brickwork & Masonry — Apply direct to non-porous brickwork and masonry walls to protect against graffiti and flyposting. The clear gloss finish retains the original appearance of the brickwork and any graffiti can be removed with water or mild detergent.

• Sandstone & Natural Stone — Apply over Coo-Var Sealer Coat for GP101 to sandstone, limestone and other natural porous stone surfaces. The sealer coat is required on porous surfaces before applying GP101 to ensure adhesion and prevent excessive absorption.

• Concrete & Rendered Surfaces — Apply to concrete walls, rendered surfaces and retaining walls in high-graffiti areas. The clear gloss finish retains the original surface appearance while providing durable anti-graffiti protection.

• Bridges & Infrastructure — Apply to bridge abutments, parapets and infrastructure surfaces in high-graffiti areas. The durable coating resists graffiti and flyposting and allows quick, cost-effective cleaning with water or mild detergent.

• Subways & Underpasses — Apply to subway and underpass walls where graffiti is a persistent problem. The clear gloss finish preserves the existing surface appearance and any graffiti can be removed quickly without specialist chemicals or contractor call-out.

• Schools, Hospitals & Public Buildings — Apply to external walls of schools, hospitals, transport hubs and other public buildings where graffiti and flyposting are common. The clear gloss finish preserves the building's appearance and the easy-clean surface reduces maintenance costs.

Coverage: 8–10 m² per litre at recommended dry film thickness

Coverage per size

• 2.5L: Covers approximately 20–25 m² per coat
• 5L: Covers approximately 40–50 m² per coat

Coverage will vary depending on surface porosity and texture. Porous surfaces such as sandstone will absorb more product — apply Coo-Var Sealer Coat for GP101 first on porous surfaces to reduce absorption and improve coverage.

Recommended coats

• 1–2 coats of GP101 are typically required
• Recoat after 4–6 hours
• On porous surfaces, apply Coo-Var Sealer Coat for GP101 before applying GP101

Important — Pot Life: GP101 has a pot life of approximately 2 hours once exposed to the elements. Pour manageable quantities into a roller tray or spray unit as required and reseal the container immediately. Do not expose the full container to the elements.

Example calculations

• For a school wall of 50 m²: approximately 1 x 5L tin per coat
• For a subway of 100 m²: approximately 2 x 5L tins per coat
• For a small area of 20 m²: a 2.5L tin will cover 1 coat

For accurate project planning, we recommend ordering 10–15% extra to account for surface variation and porosity.

Adhesion Test — Required Before Full Application

An adhesion test must be carried out on all surfaces before full application:

For signage and murals:
1. Dab GP101 with a small rag onto a small area of substrate (5–10 cm²)
2. Allow to dry overnight
3. After sufficient dry time, rub firmly across the test area with a finger
4. If GP101 does not peel off, the surface is compatible

For other painted surfaces:
1. Dab GP101 onto a small area and allow to dry overnight
2. Soak a rag with Thinners 14 and rub firmly across the test area
3. Then rub the surface by hand
4. If there is no evidence of GP101 peeling off, the surface is compatible

Surface Preparation

• Remove existing graffiti with dedicated graffiti removal agents where required
• Ensure the substrate is free of any residue from graffiti removal agents before applying
• The surface must be clean, sound and free of dust, dirt, oil and grease
• If necessary, wash the substrate with high-pressure water and allow to dry fully
• On porous and natural surfaces such as sandstone, apply Coo-Var Sealer Coat for GP101 before applying GP101
• Apply GP101 direct to non-porous brickwork and masonry — no sealer coat required

Application

1. Stir well before use
2. Pour a manageable quantity into a roller tray or spray unit — reseal the container immediately
3. Apply by brush, roller or spray to the prepared surface
4. Apply 1–2 coats as required — recoat after 4–6 hours
5. Do not thin — apply direct
6. Clean brushes, rollers and trays with Thinners 14 immediately after use

Drying Times (at 20°C)

• Touch dry: 1–2 hours
• Hard dry: 2.25 hours
• Recoat interval: 4–6 hours

Drying times will be longer in cold or humid conditions.

Graffiti Removal After Application

• Remove graffiti using water or mild cleansing agents only
• Do not use anything stronger — stronger cleaning agents will damage the GP101 coating
• Fly posters simply peel off — no chemicals required
