What Our Customers Say

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Transformed our weathered teak furniture in one afternoon" Our teak garden set had gone completely grey after two winters without treatment. Used Lacq Turbogel to clean it back first, then applied two coats of Coo-Var Siliconised Teak Oil. The colour came back beautifully and the grain looks stunning. Will be doing this every year from now on. — Helen Cartwright, Homeowner, Surrey

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "The silicone formula makes a real difference to water repellency" I have used several teak oils over the years and Coo-Var Siliconised Teak Oil is noticeably better for water repellency. Water beads off the surface rather than soaking in. The natural finish enhances the grain without making it look artificial. Excellent product. — David Forsythe, Garden Designer, Cheshire

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Used on hardwood decking — still looking great after a full season" Applied two coats to our hardwood decking at the start of the season. The oil soaked in beautifully and the finish has held up well through a full summer of use and rain. The coverage was better than expected — one 1L tin covered our 6 m² deck with two coats. — Rachel Drummond, Homeowner, Kent

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Easy to apply and the results speak for themselves" Applied by cloth as a flood coat as instructed — very easy to work into the grain. The teak furniture looks as good as new and the oil dried overnight ready for a second coat the next morning. Delivery was next day as promised. Would recommend to anyone with hardwood garden furniture. — Paul Ashby, Homeowner, Worcestershire

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Our go-to teak oil for all our joinery projects" We use Coo-Var Siliconised Teak Oil on all our hardwood joinery and furniture projects. It consistently delivers a beautiful natural finish and the water resistance is excellent. The 1L tin is the right size for most of our jobs and the price is very competitive. — Liz Holloway, Joiner & Furniture Maker, Devon

Coo-Var Siliconised Teak Oil is a premium blend of natural oils and silicone derivatives formulated to enhance, preserve and restore the appearance of teak and other hardwoods. Developed by Coo-Var — a British coatings manufacturer with over 115 years of heritage — it is designed to penetrate deep into the grain of hardwood, nourishing the timber from within and providing a good degree of water resistance for both interior and exterior use.

The silicone enhancement gives this oil a significant advantage over traditional teak oils — the silicone derivatives improve water repellency and help the oil bond more effectively with the wood grain than conventional varnishes or plain oils. The result is a natural, oiled finish that enhances the colour and grain of teak and other hardwoods while protecting against moisture, weathering and the effects of outdoor exposure.

Suitable for teak garden furniture, hardwood decking, outdoor joinery and interior hardwood furniture, it can be applied by brush or cloth as a flood coat, working well into the grain and paying particular attention to end grains where moisture ingress is greatest.

Key Benefits

• Silicone-enhanced formula — improves water repellency and grain penetration beyond traditional teak oils
• Enhances, preserves and restores — brings back the natural colour and grain of weathered or faded hardwood
• Interior and exterior use — suitable for garden furniture, decking, outdoor joinery and interior hardwood
• Natural oiled finish — clear finish that enhances the natural colour and grain without obscuring the wood
• Good water resistance — silicone derivatives repel moisture and protect against weathering
• Apply by brush or cloth — simple flood coat application, no specialist equipment required
• 115+ years of British expertise — trusted by homeowners, joiners and woodcare professionals across the UK

Coo-Var Siliconised Teak Oil is an excellent choice for enhancing, preserving and restoring a wide range of hardwood surfaces:

• Teak Garden Furniture — Restore and preserve teak garden tables, chairs, benches and sun loungers. The silicone-enhanced formula revives the natural golden colour of weathered teak and provides excellent water repellency for outdoor use. Apply annually as part of a garden furniture maintenance programme.

• Hardwood Decking — Apply to teak, iroko, balau and other hardwood decking to preserve the natural colour and protect against moisture, weathering and foot traffic. Work the oil well into the grain and pay particular attention to end grains and board ends where moisture ingress is greatest.

• Outdoor Joinery & Garden Structures — Apply to hardwood gates, pergolas, garden structures and exterior joinery to protect against weathering and maintain the natural appearance of the wood. Suitable for all exterior hardwood joinery exposed to the elements.

• Weathered & Greyed Hardwood — Revive hardwood that has greyed or faded through weathering and lack of maintenance. Use Lacq Turbogel Wood Reviver Gel to clean and restore the wood surface first, then apply Siliconised Teak Oil to nourish and protect the restored timber.

• Interior Hardwood Furniture — Apply to interior teak and hardwood furniture, floors and joinery to enhance the natural grain and provide a durable, water-resistant oiled finish. Suitable for dining tables, chairs, worktops and hardwood flooring.

• Annual Hardwood Maintenance — Use as part of an annual hardwood maintenance programme to keep garden furniture, decking and outdoor joinery in excellent condition. Regular oiling prevents moisture ingress, cracking and greying, extending the life of hardwood significantly.

Coverage: 7 m² per litre (average — dependent on wood porosity)

Coverage per size

• 1L: Covers approximately 7 m² per coat

Note: Coverage is highly dependent on the porosity and condition of the wood. Dry, weathered or very porous hardwood will absorb significantly more oil than smooth, previously oiled surfaces. New or freshly sanded hardwood will also absorb more oil on the first coat.

Recommended coats

• 2 coats are recommended for best results — the first coat seals and nourishes, the second coat provides the protective finish
• Recoat after a minimum of 16 hours or overnight at 20°C
• Additional coats can be applied annually as part of a maintenance programme

Example calculations

• For a standard 6-seater teak garden furniture set (approximately 5–8 m² surface area): a 1L tin will cover 1–2 coats
• For hardwood decking of 15 m²: 2–3 x 1L tins for 2 coats
• For a set of hardwood garden chairs (approximately 3 m²): a 1L tin will cover 2–3 coats

For accurate project planning, we recommend ordering 10–15% extra to account for surface variation and porosity.

Surface Preparation

New Hardwood
• Allow new hardwood to dry for 1–2 weeks before applying teak oil
• Ensure the surface is clean, dry and free from contaminants

Weathered or Greyed Hardwood
• Clean and revive greyed or weathered wood with Lacq Turbogel Wood Reviver Gel before oiling
• Allow the surface to dry fully after cleaning before applying oil
• Use sandpaper to remove any unwanted old coatings or paints before applying

Previously Oiled Hardwood
• Clean the surface and allow to dry fully
• Lightly sand if required to provide a key
• Apply as a maintenance coat following the same application method

All Surfaces
• All surfaces must be clean, dry and free from contaminants before applying

Application

1. Mix the oil well before use
2. Apply as a flood coat by brush or cloth, working the oil well into the grain
3. Pay particular care to end grains where moisture ingress is greatest — apply generously to these areas
4. Allow to penetrate for a few minutes, then wipe off any excess oil that has not been absorbed
5. Allow to dry — touch dry in 8 hours, recoat after a minimum of 16 hours or overnight
6. Apply a second coat following the same method for best results
7. Clean brushes and cloths immediately after use with Thinners 14

Drying Times (at 20°C)

• Touch dry: 8 hours
• Hard dry: 24 hours
• Recoat interval: 16 hours or overnight

Drying times will be longer in cold or humid conditions.

Important Notes

• Apply as a flood coat — do not apply thinly; work the oil generously into the grain
• Pay particular attention to end grains — these absorb the most moisture and require the most oil
• New hardwood must be allowed to dry for 1–2 weeks before applying
• Clean equipment with Thinners 14 immediately after use
