Customer Reviews

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Applied Suredeck to our garden decking after a bad slip in wet weather. Used Lacq Turbogel first to revive the greyed timber, then applied two coats of Suredeck. The clear finish is perfect — you can still see the natural wood grain but the grip is outstanding even in heavy rain. No slips since application. Excellent product." — Bethany R., Homeowner, Kent

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Used Suredeck on our decking and timber steps. Applied two coats in one day — touch dry in 90 minutes as stated, second coat after 6 hours. The clear finish doesn't change the colour of the wood at all — just better traction for the kids. Coverage of 8–10 m² per litre is accurate. Highly recommend." — Mark H., Homeowner, Surrey

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Applied Suredeck to our restaurant terrace decking after a customer slip incident. Two coats applied over a weekend. The anti-slip performance is excellent — no incidents in 8 months of heavy use in all weathers. The clear finish preserves the natural timber look which is important for our outdoor dining area. Outstanding product." — Caroline T., Restaurant Manager, Bristol

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Used Suredeck on our holiday park decking and boardwalks. Applied to hardwood decking — coverage is excellent and the clear finish looks professional. The UV resistance is impressive — no fading or greying after a full outdoor season. Recoated one area after 18 months — easy to apply and still performing well." — Derek W., Holiday Park Manager, Devon

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Applied Suredeck to our poolside decking. Revived the timber with Turbogel first as recommended. The anti-slip performance around the pool is exceptional — safe even when the decking is soaking wet. The clear finish looks stunning. Water-based formula means no strong fumes near the pool area. Best anti-slip decking product available." — Sandra P., Spa Manager, Harrogate

Is This Product Right For Me

• Apply a clear anti-slip coating to exterior timber decking that preserves the natural wood grain and appearance

• Improve traction on slippery decking in wet conditions with proven anti-slip performance (PTV over 35 — low slip risk)

• Protect timber decking from UV fade, mould, algae, and weathering with a water-based, UV-resistant coating

• Apply a fast-drying decking protector (touch dry 90 minutes, recoat after 6 hours) that allows two coats in a single day

• Use a water-based, low VOC, non-flammable, low-odour coating that is safe for use around children and pets once cured

• Apply to tanalised, softwood, or hardwood exterior timber decking

• Use professional-grade anti-slip decking protection from Coo-Var (115+ years British coating expertise)

❌ This product is NOT suitable if you need to:

• Apply a coloured decking paint — Suredeck is clear only and preserves the natural wood appearance

• Apply in temperatures below 10°C (minimum application temperature 10°C — higher than most coatings)

• Apply to wet or damp timber — decking must be completely dry before, during application and curing

• Use immediately after application — allow full cure of 3–5 days before heavy foot traffic

• Apply to heavily weathered or greyed decking without preparation — revive with Lacq Turbogel first for best results

• Apply to composite, plastic, or non-timber decking surfaces

• Apply by roller to grooved decking — use a brush only on grooved decking to prevent pooling in grooves which causes cloudiness

About The Product

Coo-Var Suredeck Anti-Slip Decking Protector is a clear, water-based acrylic anti-slip coating designed to protect exterior timber decking from slips, UV damage, mould, algae, and weathering — whilst preserving the natural wood grain and appearance. Unlike coloured decking paints that mask the timber, Suredeck's clear semi-gloss finish with micro-grip technology keeps decking safe underfoot without changing the look of the wood.

Developed by Coo-Var with over 115 years of British coating expertise, Suredeck provides proven anti-slip performance with a Pendulum Test Value (PTV) of over 35 — classified as low slip risk. The micro-grip clear coating creates a textured surface that significantly improves traction in wet conditions, reducing the risk of slips and falls on decking, balconies, poolside walkways, and timber steps.

For best results on tired, weathered, or greyed decking, revive the timber first with Lacq Turbogel before applying Suredeck. Turbogel restores the natural colour and condition of weathered timber, giving Suredeck the best possible surface to bond to and maximising the life of the protective coating.

Apply by brush or roller to clean, dry, prepared timber decking. Can be thinned up to 5% with clean water for the first coat on very porous or new timber. Coverage of 8–10 m² per litre from a 1 litre tin. Touch dry in 90 minutes, recoat after minimum 6 hours — making it possible to apply two coats in a single day. Full cure in 3–5 days.

Suitable for exterior tanalised, softwood, and hardwood timber decking. Clear finish only — preserves the natural wood appearance. Water-based, VOC ≤83 g/L, non-flammable, and low odour. Minimum application temperature 10°C.

Manufactured in the UK to rigorous standards and trusted by homeowners, property managers, hospitality operators, and professional contractors for safe, long-lasting decking protection.

Coverage & How Much Do I Need

Coverage: 8–10 m² per litre

Per Tin Coverage:
• 1 litre: Covers approx. 8–10 m² per coat

Coverage varies depending on timber porosity and condition. New, porous, or weathered timber will absorb more product. The first coat on very porous timber can be thinned up to 5% with clean water to aid penetration.

Example Calculations (two coats recommended):

Small Deck (up to 4 m²):
• Coverage needed: 8 m² (two coats)
• Product required: Approx. 1 litre
• Recommended: One 1 L tin

Medium Deck (up to 8 m²):
• Coverage needed: 16 m² (two coats)
• Product required: Approx. 2 litres
• Recommended: Two 1 L tins

Large Deck (up to 15 m²):
• Coverage needed: 30 m² (two coats)
• Product required: Approx. 3–4 litres
• Recommended: Three to four 1 L tins

For accurate project planning, measure your total decking surface area and allow for two coats minimum. Order 10% extra for surface variation and porosity.

Important: Touch dry 90 minutes. Recoat after minimum 6 hours. Full cure 3–5 days — avoid heavy foot traffic until fully cured.

Recommended System Products:
• Lacq Turbogel – Revive tired, weathered, or greyed decking before applying Suredeck for best results
• Paint Brushes • Paint Rollers • Roller Trays & Accessories

How To Apply

Important Safety Note:

Water-based, VOC ≤83 g/L, non-flammable, and low odour. Wear appropriate PPE including gloves and eye protection during application. Keep away from children and pets until fully cured (3–5 days).

⚠️ Important — Grooved Decking: Always use a brush on grooved decking. Do not use a roller on grooved decking — Suredeck must not be allowed to pool in the grooves as this will cause the coating to go cloudy. Rollers are only suitable for smooth decking surfaces.

Surface Preparation Sequence:

Step 1 — Revive Weathered Timber (if required):
• For tired, weathered, or greyed decking, apply Lacq Turbogel first to restore the natural colour and condition of the timber
• Follow Turbogel application instructions and allow to dry completely before applying Suredeck
• This step maximises the life and performance of the Suredeck coating

Step 2 — Clean the Decking:
• Sweep or brush away loose dirt, debris, and leaves
• Clean decking thoroughly to remove dirt, algae, mould, and contamination
• Use a suitable decking cleaner or pressure washer for heavily soiled surfaces
• Allow to dry completely — decking must be completely dry before and during application and curing phase

Step 3 — Sand if Required:
• Lightly sand smooth or weathered surfaces to open the grain and improve absorption
• Remove any loose or flaking existing coatings
• Wipe away dust and debris before application

Step 4 — Test:
• Test on a small, inconspicuous area first if the wood is heavily stained or has multiple old coatings
• Check for desired appearance and absorption before proceeding

Mixing & Thinning:

• Stir Suredeck thoroughly before use
• First coat on very porous or new timber: thin up to 5% with clean water to aid penetration
• Second coat: apply at full consistency — do not thin

Application:

• Apply in temperatures above 10°C for optimal drying and adhesion
• Do not apply to wet or damp timber, ensure dry throughout the curing phase.

Grooved Decking — Brush Only:
• Always apply by brush on grooved or profiled decking boards
• Work product evenly along the grain — do not allow product to pool in the grooves
• Pooling in grooves will cause the coating to go cloudy — apply thin, even coats
• Ensure complete coverage of all surfaces including the sides of grooves
• Coverage: 8–10 m² per litre per coat

Smooth Decking — Brush or Roller:
• Apply by brush or short-nap roller on smooth, flat decking surfaces only
• Apply evenly with consistent pressure
• Avoid pooling or overly thick coats
• Coverage: 8–10 m² per litre per coat

• Apply first coat and allow to dry for minimum 6 hours before applying second coat
• Apply second coat at full consistency
• Allow full cure of 3–5 days before heavy foot traffic

Drying Times (at 20°C):

• Touch dry: 90 minutes
• Recoat: Minimum 6 hours
• Full cure: 3–5 days (avoid heavy foot traffic until fully cured)

Drying times may be extended in cooler temperatures or high humidity.

Recommended System Products:
• Lacq Turbogel – Revive tired, weathered, or greyed decking before applying Suredeck
• Paint Brushes • Paint Rollers (smooth decking only) • Roller Trays & Accessories

FAQ's

What is Coo-Var Suredeck Anti-Slip Decking Protector and when should I use it?

Coo-Var Suredeck is a clear, water-based acrylic anti-slip coating designed to protect exterior timber decking from slips, UV damage, mould, algae, and weathering whilst preserving the natural wood grain and appearance. Use it when you need to improve traction on slippery decking and protect timber from weathering without changing the look of the wood.

How effective is the anti-slip protection?

Suredeck provides proven anti-slip performance with a Pendulum Test Value (PTV) of over 35 — classified as low slip risk. The micro-grip clear coating significantly improves traction in wet conditions, reducing the risk of slips and falls on decking, balconies, poolside walkways, and timber steps.

Will Suredeck change the appearance of my decking?

No — Suredeck is a clear semi-gloss coating that preserves the natural wood grain and appearance. It does not change the colour of the timber. The micro-grip texture is virtually invisible — your decking will look the same but feel much safer underfoot. Important: do not allow Suredeck to pool in the grooves of grooved decking as this will cause cloudiness — always use a brush on grooved decking.

Can I use a roller to apply Suredeck?

Only on smooth, flat decking surfaces. On grooved or profiled decking boards you must use a brush only — do not use a roller on grooved decking. Suredeck must not be allowed to pool in the grooves as this will cause the coating to go cloudy. Always apply thin, even coats with a brush on grooved decking.

What surfaces can I apply Suredeck to?

Suredeck is suitable for exterior tanalised, softwood, and hardwood timber decking. It is not suitable for composite, plastic, or non-timber decking surfaces, or for interior timber surfaces.

Should I prepare my decking before applying Suredeck?

Yes — decking must be clean, dry, and free from dirt, algae, mould, and loose coatings before applying Suredeck. For tired, weathered, or greyed decking, revive the timber first with Lacq Turbogel to restore the natural colour and condition before applying Suredeck. This maximises the life and performance of the coating.

How do I apply Suredeck?

On grooved decking: use a brush only — apply evenly along the grain and do not allow product to pool in the grooves. On smooth decking: apply by brush or short-nap roller. Stir thoroughly before use. The first coat on very porous timber can be thinned up to 5% with clean water. Allow minimum 6 hours between coats.

How long does Suredeck take to dry?

Touch dry in 90 minutes at 20°C. Recoat after minimum 6 hours — two coats can be applied in a single day. Full cure in 3–5 days — avoid heavy foot traffic until fully cured. Drying times may be extended in cooler temperatures or high humidity.

What is the minimum application temperature for Suredeck?

The minimum application temperature is 10°C — higher than many coatings. Do not apply in temperatures below 10°C or to wet or damp timber.

What coverage can I expect from Suredeck?

Suredeck provides 8–10 m² per litre. A 1 litre tin covers 8–10 m² per coat. Coverage varies depending on timber porosity — weathered or porous timber will absorb more product. Order 10% extra for surface variation.

How long before I can use my decking after applying Suredeck?

Touch dry in 90 minutes and recoatable after 6 hours. Allow full cure of 3–5 days before heavy foot traffic. Light foot traffic is possible after 6 hours but avoid heavy use until fully cured.

Is Suredeck eco-friendly and safe to use?

Yes — Suredeck is water-based, VOC ≤83 g/L, non-flammable, and low odour. Safe for use around children and pets once fully cured (3–5 days). Easy clean-up with water.

How often do I need to reapply Suredeck?

Reapply when the decking shows signs of reduced slip resistance or the coating shows signs of wear. Revive weathered timber with Lacq Turbogel before reapplying Suredeck if required. Always use a brush when reapplying to grooved decking.
