Customer Reviews

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Used Coo-Var Swimming Pool Paint on our hotel pool after the previous paint started flaking. Degreased with Universal Degreaser, acid etched the bare patches, thinned the first coat with Swimming Pool Thinners as instructed. The finish is outstanding — deep gloss Pacific Blue. No fading after a full season of heavy use. Excellent product." — Grace D., Hotel Manager, Brighton

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Applied to our concrete residential pool in Azure Blue. Easy to apply by brush — coverage is excellent, one 5L tin covered our entire pool in two coats. Touch dry in 2 hours, second coat next morning. Waited 10 days before filling. The pool looks brand new. Great coverage and a beautiful finish." — Paul M., Homeowner, Surrey

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Used Coo-Var Swimming Pool Paint on our leisure centre pool. Applied Atlantic Blue over the existing chlorinated rubber paint. Degreased thoroughly first. The chemical resistance is outstanding — still looking perfect after 12 months of heavy chlorine use and daily scrubbing. Highly recommend for commercial pools." — Sandra W., Leisure Centre Manager, Bristol

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Applied White to our outdoor lido pool. Thinned the first coat 10% with Swimming Pool Thinners as recommended. The coverage is exceptional — up to 14 m² per litre is accurate. The gloss finish is bright and clean. No algae build-up after a full outdoor season. Best swimming pool paint available." — Derek H., Lido Manager, Bath

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Used this on our spa pool in Pacific Blue. Prepared the concrete surface with Universal Degreaser and Acid Etch first. Used Fluxaf Mould & Mildew Remover on a few patches before degreasing. The paint has been in constant use for 8 months with no fading, peeling, or chemical damage. The gloss finish makes the pool look stunning." — Joanne T., Spa Owner, Harrogate

About The Product

Coo-Var Swimming Pool Paint is a tough, chemical-resistant chlorinated rubber pool coating designed to waterproof, protect, and beautify concrete swimming pools and previously chlorinated rubber painted pools. Unlike standard exterior paints that quickly degrade under constant water immersion, chlorine, UV exposure, and scrubbing, this specialist chlorinated rubber formulation is engineered specifically for the harsh swimming pool environment — providing a durable, colourfast, waterproof film that keeps pools looking pristine season after season.

Developed by Coo-Var with over 115 years of British coating expertise, Swimming Pool Paint is the professional solution for residential pools, commercial leisure pools, hotel pools, and sports centre pools requiring durable, chemical-resistant protection and decoration. The chlorinated rubber formulation provides excellent resistance to chlorine, pool chemicals, UV exposure, and abrasion — maintaining its gloss finish and colour vibrancy through years of heavy use.

⚠️ Important compatibility note: Coo-Var Swimming Pool Paint is only compatible with existing chlorinated rubber paint systems. It must not be applied over pools previously painted with epoxy, polyurethane, or other non-chlorinated rubber coatings — doing so will cause adhesion failure. If you are unsure what paint system is currently on your pool, contact our experts via live chat before ordering.

The correct preparation sequence for swimming pools is: 1) degrease with Coo-Var Universal Degreaser to remove oils, sunscreen residue, and contamination, 2) acid etch bare concrete with Coo-Var Acid Etch to create a key for adhesion, 3) thin the first coat 10% with Swimming Pool Thinners for penetration into the surface, 4) apply second and subsequent coats at full consistency. Allow minimum 16 hours between coats and full hardness of 7–14 days before filling the pool.

Apply by brush or airless spray. Coverage of up to 14 m² per litre (up to 70 m² per 5 L tin) makes it cost-effective for large pool areas. Available in White, Pacific Blue, Atlantic Blue, and Azure Blue — all in 5 L tins. Minimum application temperature 7°C. VOC 625 g/L, flash point 40°C — use in well-ventilated area away from ignition sources.

Manufactured in the UK to rigorous standards and trusted by pool owners, leisure facility managers, hotel operators, and professional contractors for durable, long-lasting swimming pool protection and decoration.

Coverage & How Much Do I Need

Coverage: Up to 14 m² per litre (up to 70 m² per 5 L tin)

Per Tin Coverage:
• 5 litres: Covers up to 70 m² per coat

Note: Coverage varies depending on surface porosity and condition. New or porous concrete surfaces will absorb more paint and require more product. The first coat should be thinned 10% with Swimming Pool Thinners for penetration — this will reduce coverage slightly on the first coat.

Example Calculations (two coats recommended):

Small Pool (25 m² surface area):
• Coverage needed: 50 m² (two coats)
• Product required: Approx. 4 litres
• Recommended: One 5 L tin (covers with product to spare)

Medium Pool (50 m² surface area):
• Coverage needed: 100 m² (two coats)
• Product required: Approx. 7–8 litres
• Recommended: Two 5 L tins

Large Pool (100 m² surface area):
• Coverage needed: 200 m² (two coats)
• Product required: Approx. 14–15 litres
• Recommended: Three 5 L tins

For accurate project planning, measure your pool's total surface area (walls + floor) and allow for two coats minimum. Order 10% extra for surface variation and porosity.

Important: Allow minimum 16 hours between coats. Allow full hardness of 7–14 days before filling the pool with water.

Recommended System Products:

• Coo-Var Universal Degreaser – Degrease pool surfaces before acid etching or painting
• Coo-Var Acid Etch – Chemically abrade bare concrete before painting for optimal adhesion
• Swimming Pool Thinners – Thin first coat 10% for penetration into the surface
• Fluxaf Mould & Mildew Remover – Remove mould and mildew from pool surfaces before preparation and painting

How To Apply

Important Safety Note:

VOC 625 g/L, flash point 40°C — use in well-ventilated area away from open flames, sparks, and ignition sources. Wear appropriate PPE including gloves, eye protection, and respiratory protection. Keep away from ignition sources during application and drying.

Compatibility:
existing chlorinated rubber paint systems. Do not apply over epoxy, polyurethane, or other non-chlorinated rubber coatings without contacting us first.

Once dry, proceed with degreasing, acid etching, and painting. Treat any mould or mildew promptly during maintenance to prevent it spreading under the coating.

What products do I need to complete my pool painting system?

Use Fluxaf Mould & Mildew Remover to treat any mould or mildew first. Then use Coo-Var Universal Degreaser to degrease the pool surface. Use Coo-Var Acid Etch to chemically abrade bare concrete.
