What Our Customers Say

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Court looks brand new — members are delighted" We resurfaced two of our club's tarmac courts with Green and the result is exceptional. Applied two coats over a weekend, touch dry within the hour each time, and the courts were back in use by Monday. The grip is noticeably better than the old surface. Delivery was next day as promised. — Richard Ashworth, Club Secretary, Surrey

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Wimbledon Green is the perfect finish for our courts" We used Wimbledon Green on our three asphalt courts and the colour is spot on — exactly what we were looking for. Two coats went on easily with a roller and the finish is smooth, even and very grippy. Great product at a very fair price compared to professional resurfacing quotes we received. — Helen Forsythe, Facilities Manager, Cheshire

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
"Used on our school's MUGA — excellent result" We painted our multi-use games area with Tile Red and White line markings over the top. The coverage was good, it dried quickly between coats and the surface has held up well through a full school year of heavy use. The slip resistance is reassuring for PE lessons in wet weather. — Andrew Patel, Site Manager, Birmingham

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Transformed our private court for a fraction of the cost" Our concrete court was looking very tired and we had quotes of thousands for professional resurfacing. Used Green Coo-Var Tennis Court Paint instead — two coats, one weekend, and it looks completely transformed. The texture gives great grip and the colour is vibrant. Highly recommend. — Caroline Whitfield, Homeowner, Oxfordshire

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Reliable product, consistent results across multiple courts" We have now used this on six courts across two leisure centres and the results are consistently excellent. Easy to apply, fast drying and the slip-tested finish gives us confidence from a health and safety perspective. Will continue to specify Coo-Var for all our court resurfacing projects. — Stuart Brennan, Leisure Centre Manager, Glasgow

✅ This product is ideal if you need to:

• Resurface and restore colour to a faded or tired concrete or tarmac tennis court
• Improve grip and safety on a court surface — independently slip tested PTV 68 Dry and 58 Wet (both Low Risk)
• Complete the job quickly — touch dry in 1 hour, second coat the same day
• Use a water-based, low-VOC product that is easy to apply and clean up with water
• Match LTA colour guidelines or club branding with a choice of five colours
• Avoid the cost and disruption of full court resurfacing

❌ This product is NOT suitable if you need to:

• The court surface is unstable, crumbling or heavily cracked — the surface must be sound before painting
• The surface or air temperature is at or below 7°C during painting and drying
• You require a colour outside the available range (Black, Tile Red, White, Green and Wimbledon Green only)
• The surface has not been properly cleaned and degreased — contamination will cause adhesion failure
• You are using airless spray equipment not rated for abrasive coatings — the aggregate can be abrasive to spray tips; check manufacturer recommendations before use

Coo-Var Tennis Court Paint is a water-based, pre-aggregated court coating formulated to add colour, restore grip and protect concrete, tarmac and asphalt tennis court surfaces. Developed by Coo-Var — a British coatings manufacturer with over 115 years of heritage — it delivers a durable, slip-resistant matt finish that transforms tired courts without the disruption and cost of full resurfacing.

The very fine aggregate within the formulation provides a textured, non-slip surface that has been independently tested to PTV 68 Dry (Low Risk) and 58 Wet (Low Risk) — giving clubs, facilities managers and contractors confidence that the finished surface is safe underfoot in all weathers. The water-based formula keeps VOC content to a maximum of 140 g/litre, making it a lower-odour, more environmentally considerate choice than solvent-based alternatives, and tools clean up with water.

Available in Black, Tile Red, White, Green and Wimbledon Green in a 5L tin, Coo-Var Tennis Court Paint gives clubs and facilities the flexibility to meet LTA colour guidelines or create a distinctive court finish. It can be applied by brush, short-pile roller or airless spray, and touch dries in just 1 hour, allowing a second coat the same day.

Coverage: 5–9 m² per litre at 35 micron dry film thickness (applied by brush or roller)

Coverage per size

• 5L tin: Covers approximately 25–45 m² per coat on a smooth, prepared surface

Recommended coats

• Minimum 2 coats recommended for full colour depth, opacity and durability
• First coat on porous or bare concrete surfaces should be thinned 5% with clean water to act as a primer coat
• Second and subsequent coats applied direct from the tin

Example calculations

• A standard singles tennis court is approximately 195 m² (full court including run-offs approximately 260 m²)
• For a singles court of 195 m², you will need approximately 4–5 x 5L tins per coat depending on surface porosity
• For 2 coats on a singles court, you will need approximately 8–10 x 5L tins

• For a doubles court of approximately 260 m², you will need approximately 6–7 x 5L tins per coat
• For 2 coats on a doubles court, you will need approximately 12–14 x 5L tins

• For a half court or MUGA section of approximately 100 m², you will need approximately 2–3 x 5L tins per coat

Practical coverage may be lower depending on surface porosity, roughness and application method. Rough or porous tarmac and concrete will absorb more paint than a smooth or previously painted surface. For accurate project planning, we recommend ordering 10–15% extra to account for surface variation.

Surface Preparation

All Surfaces
• Surfaces must be sound, clean and free from contaminants including oil, grease, dirt, moss, algae and loose material
• Do not apply if the surface or air temperature is at or below 7°C during painting or drying
• Mix the paint well before use

Concrete
• All bare concrete surfaces should be abraded or treated with Coo-Var Acid Etch to provide a good key
• After abrading or etching, apply a first coat thinned 5% with clean water before applying full coats
• Newly laid concrete should be left to cure before painting — allow 1 month per 3cm of slab thickness
• Very porous concrete surfaces should also receive a first coat thinned 5% with clean water

Tarmac and Asphalt
• Ensure the surface is stable, sound and free from contaminants
• Remove any moss, algae or organic growth before painting

Existing Painted Surfaces
• Clean, degrease and abrade to ensure an adequate key
• Remove all loose and flaking material and treat bare areas as new substrate

Application

1. Mix the paint thoroughly before use and periodically during application
2. Apply by brush, short-pile roller or airless spray (nozzle size 0.021", pressure 1000–1300 psi)
3. Note: the aggregate in this product can be abrasive to spray equipment — check your spray tip manufacturer's recommendations before use
4. Apply the first coat — on porous or bare concrete surfaces, thin 5% with clean water; on other surfaces apply direct
5. Allow a minimum of 6 hours between coats
6. Apply a minimum of 2 coats for full colour depth and durability
7. Clean tools immediately after use with clean water

Drying Times (at 20°C)

• Touch dry: 1 hour
• Hard dry: 4 hours
• Full hardness: 5–7 days

Drying times will be longer in cold or humid conditions. Do not apply if temperature will be at or below 7°C during painting or drying.

Important Notes

• Exterior use on stable asphalt, concrete and tarmac only
• Do not apply to unstable, crumbling or heavily cracked surfaces
• Minimum 2 coats required for full performance
• Full hardness is achieved in 5–7 days — avoid play during this period
• This product is non-flammable

What surfaces can Coo-Var Tennis Court Paint be applied to?
It is suitable for asphalt, concrete and tarmac tennis courts. The surface must be sound, clean and free from oil, grease, moss and loose material. It is not suitable for unstable, crumbling or heavily cracked surfaces.

Do I need a primer?
Not a separate primer product. On porous or bare concrete surfaces, the first coat should be thinned 5% with clean water to act as a primer coat. Bare concrete must also be abraded or treated with Coo-Var Acid Etch before painting.

What colours are available?

Black, Tile Red, White, Green and Wimbledon Green — all available in a 5L tin.

What pack size is available?
Coo-Var Tennis Court Paint is available in a 5L tin.

How many coats do I need?
A minimum of 2 coats is recommended for full colour depth and durability. On porous or bare concrete, the first coat should be thinned 5% with clean water.

How long do I need to wait between coats?
Allow a minimum of 6 hours between coats at 20°C. Drying times will be longer in cold or humid conditions.

How long before the court can be used after painting?
The paint is touch dry in 1 hour and hard dry in 4 hours at 20°C. Full hardness is achieved in 5–7 days — avoid play during this period to allow the surface to fully cure.

How much does a 5L tin cover?
A 5L tin covers approximately 25–45 m² per coat at 35 micron dry film thickness on a smooth, prepared surface. A standard singles court (approximately 195 m²) will require approximately 4–5 x 5L tins per coat. Coverage will be lower on rough or porous surfaces.

Can I apply it with a sprayer?
Yes, using airless spray equipment with a 0.021" nozzle at 1000–1300 psi. Note that the aggregate in this product can be abrasive to spray tips — check your equipment manufacturer's recommendations before use.

Is it slip resistant?

Yes. Coo-Var Tennis Court Paint has been independently tested and achieved a PTV of 68 Dry (Low Risk) and 58 Wet (Low Risk). A site assessment is recommended to determine actual slip risk in your specific environment.

What temperature do I need to apply it?
Do not apply if the surface or air temperature is at or below 7°C during painting or drying. Low temperature and high humidity will adversely affect application, drying and performance.

How do I prepare new concrete?
New concrete should be left to cure before painting — allow 1 month per 3cm of slab thickness. After curing, abrade or treat with Coo-Var Acid Etch, then apply a first coat thinned 5% with clean water before applying full coats.

Can I apply line markings over the top?
Yes. Once the surface coat is fully hard (5–7 days), apply Coo-Var Line Marking Paint for crisp, high-visibility court lines. White and Yellow are the most commonly used colours for court markings.

How do I clean my tools?
Clean brushes, rollers and spray equipment immediately after use with clean water. Do not allow the paint to dry on tools.
