What Our Customers Say

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Transformed our bedroom — sleep quality noticeably improved" We applied three coats of G-Shield to all four bedroom walls before overcoating with our chosen emulsion. The process was straightforward and the paint covered well. We have noticed a significant improvement in sleep quality since and our EMF meter readings dropped dramatically. — Sarah Cartwright, Homeowner, Surrey

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Used in our server room — excellent RF shielding performance" We specified G-Shield for a server room refurbishment where RF containment was a requirement. Three coats applied to all walls and ceiling, grounded with copper strips as recommended. The shielding performance has been independently verified and meets our specification. — James Forsythe, IT Facilities Manager, London

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Applied during office hours — no disruption to the team" We used G-Shield in a commercial office during working hours. The low-odour, water-based formula meant there was no need to evacuate the building. Applied two coats over two days and overcoated with standard emulsion. No disruption to the team at all. — Rachel Drummond, Office Manager, Manchester

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "NPL testing gives real confidence in the product" As a building biologist I specify EMF shielding products regularly. The fact that G-Shield has been independently tested at NPL gives me and my clients real confidence in the performance claims. The -57 dB attenuation figure is excellent for a paint-based solution. — Dr Paul Ashby, Building Biologist, Bristol

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Easy to apply and overcoat — looks completely normal once finished" Applied G-Shield to our home office walls and overcoated with standard white emulsion. You would never know the shielding layer is there. The application was straightforward and the coverage was good. Delivery was next day as promised. — Wendy Holloway, Homeowner, Kent

✅ This product is ideal if you need to:

• Shield a bedroom, living area or home office from high-frequency EMF and 5G signals
• Protect a commercial office, server room or sensitive equipment room from electromagnetic interference
• Create a shielded storage area or room to block relay attacks on keyless car entry fobs and protect RFID cards, passports and contactless devices from unauthorised scanning
• Apply a shielding coating that can be overcoated with standard emulsion paint for a normal decorative finish
• Use a water-based, low-emission shielding paint that can be applied in occupied buildings
• Achieve independently verified shielding performance tested by NPL
• Shield walls, ceilings or floors from both high-frequency and low-frequency electrical fields

❌ This product is NOT suitable if you need to:

• The surface has not been properly prepared — surfaces must be clean and free from grease and wax; remove flaking paint and rust before applying
• The temperature is below 10°C or humidity is high during application — do not apply in these conditions
• You require a coloured finish without overcoating — G-Shield is black and must be overcoated with emulsion for a decorative finish
• You require shielding for a very large area without grounding — for large areas, grounding with self-adhesive copper strips is recommended

Rustins G-Shield is a specialist water-based, solvent-free electro-smog shielding paint formulated to provide reliable protection from high-frequency electromagnetic fields (EMF) and low-frequency electrical fields. Based on a high-quality cross-linking acrylic resin containing natural exfoliated graphite, it provides incremental shielding attenuation of up to -57 dB per coat for the frequency range up to 20 GHz and higher — including the full 5G frequency spectrum.

The effectiveness of G-Shield has been independently tested at NPL — the National Physical Laboratory and the UK's national measurement standards laboratory — giving buyers confidence in the product's performance claims. Unlike metal-particle-based shielding paints, the carbon-based graphite formula contains no metal particles, which means it will not corrode on metal surfaces and has lasting corrosion resistance.

G-Shield is solvent-free with low emissions, making it suitable for application in occupied buildings during working hours. It can be overcoated with all commonly used emulsion paints and applied under clean organic plasters, allowing it to be concealed within a standard decorative finish. Floor coverings can be laid directly on the shielding coating. For large area applications, grounding with self-adhesive copper strips up to 1 inch wide is recommended to maximise shielding performance.

Rustins G-Shield is an excellent choice for EMF and electro-smog shielding across a wide range of interior applications:

• Bedrooms & Living Areas
— Apply to bedroom walls and ceilings to reduce ambient EMF exposure from Wi-Fi routers, mobile phone signals and 5G transmitters. Overcoat with standard emulsion for a normal decorative finish. Particularly beneficial in urban areas with high levels of ambient electromagnetic radiation.

• Home Offices & Study Rooms — Apply to home office walls to reduce electromagnetic interference and create a lower-EMF working environment. The low-emission, water-based formula can be applied without vacating the room for extended periods.

• Commercial Offices & Meeting Rooms
— Apply to office walls and ceilings to contain Wi-Fi signals within defined areas, improve data security and reduce ambient electro-smog for staff. The overcoatable formula allows application within a standard office refurbishment programme.

• Server Rooms & Data Centres
— Apply to server room walls, ceilings and floors to provide RF containment and electromagnetic shielding. Ground with self-adhesive copper strips for large area applications to maximise shielding performance.

• Medical & Sensitive Equipment Rooms
— Apply to rooms housing sensitive medical or electronic equipment where electromagnetic interference must be controlled. The NPL-tested shielding performance provides verified attenuation for specification purposes.

• Keyless Car Entry & RFID Security — Apply to a storage room, hallway cupboard or garage wall to block relay attacks on keyless car entry fobs. Thieves use relay devices to amplify key fob signals through walls — a G-Shield lined room prevents the signal from being detected. Also effective for protecting RFID cards, passports and contactless payment devices from unauthorised scanning.

• Floors — Apply to floors before laying floor coverings. Floor coverings including carpet, vinyl and other materials can be laid directly on the dried G-Shield coating, providing shielding through the floor as well as walls and ceilings.

Example calculations (3 coats)

• For a bedroom wall of 12 m²: approximately 2 x 1L tins per coat — 6 x 1L tins for 3 coats
• For a home office of 20 m² (all walls): approximately 3–4 x 1L tins per coat — 9–12 x 1L tins for 3 coats
• For a small test area of 3 m²: a 500ml tin will cover 1 coat

Important: For large area applications, grounding with self-adhesive copper strips up to 1 inch wide is recommended to maximise shielding performance.

For accurate project planning, we recommend ordering 10–15% extra to account for surface variation and porosity.

Surface Preparation

• All surfaces must be clean and free from grease and wax before applying
• If already painted, remove all flaking paint by scraping
• Remove all rust with a scraper before applying to metal surfaces
• Ensure the surface is dry and free from dust and contaminants

Application

1. Stir well before use until there is no sediment in the bottom of the tin
2. Apply liberally with a synthetic fibre bristle brush or roller
3. Allow to become touch dry — approximately 30 minutes
4. Apply a second coat after a minimum of 3 hours
5. Apply a third coat after a further minimum of 3 hours — 3 coats are recommended for improved durability
6. For large area applications, ground the coating with self-adhesive copper strips up to 1 inch wide to maximise shielding performance

Drying Times

• Touch dry: Approximately 30 minutes
• Recoat interval: Minimum 3 hours
• Protect from rain for at least 24 hours after application

Important Notes

• Stir well before use — natural exfoliated graphite settles in the tin
• Apply liberally — do not apply too thinly as this will reduce shielding performance
• For maximum shielding, apply 3 coats and ground with copper strips on large areas
• Clean brushes and rollers immediately with water — do not allow to dry on equipment
• If brushes become hard, clean with Rustins Brush Restorer or Rustins Cellulose Thinners
